Anne Enright in conversation with four of her European translators.
To mark the European Day of Languages and International Translation Day 2016, Anne Enright will be in conversation with four translators of her work; Alessandro Achilli (Italy), Hans-Christian Oeser (Germany), Isabelle Reinharez (France) and María Porras Sánchez (Spain).
This discussion will be chaired by Anne O’Connor, NUI Galway and member of the Royal Irish Academy’s Study of Languages, Literature, Culture and Communication Committee.
A former winner of the Booker Prize, Anne Enright is the current Laureate for Irish Fiction and one of her priorities is the translation of Irish work into other languages for publication abroad. The discussions will focus on issues such as cultural transfer, Irishness, untranslatables, markets and audiences. There will also be readings from selected passages of Enright’s works.

There will be a full day of Translation Events at the Royal Irish Academy, commencing at 10:45-12:30 with a Translation Seminar with Professor Reine Meylaerts, KU Leuven: Translation and Citizenship: 'La loi doit être connue pour être obligatoire', followed by a choice of three translation roundtables at 14:00-16:00.
