Megalithic Art of the Passage Tombs at Knowth, Co. Meath
18 August 2021‘Open the door to heritage’ for Heritage Week 2021 through the megalithic carvings at the Knowth passage tombs
A major study of the 5,000-year-old carvings found during the excavations by George Eogan MRIA at Knowth, Co. Meath will be published as volume 7 of the Royal Irish Academy’s Excavations at Knowth series. The study is almost 900 pages long and contains descriptions, drawings and photographs of the carvings on the structural stones of the Knowth passage tombs, together with discussion of the carvings at Knowth and elsewhere in Ireland and Atlantic Europe.
For Heritage Week 2021, Elizabeth Shee Twohig, MRIA and Meath County Council Heritage Office have prepared a presentation on the results of the research that will be presented in the book.

EXCAVATIONS AT KNOWTH 7: The Megalithic Art of the Passage Tombs at Knowth, Co. Meath, George Eogan and Elizabeth Shee Twohig, Archaeological Editor, will be published by The Royal Irish Academy for the National Monuments Service and The Royal Irish Academy, with support from NMS, The Heritage Council and Meath County Council.
