The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Heather Laird

Heather Laird is a lecturer in English at University College Cork. Her research interests include theories and practices of resistance, particularly as they relate to land usage; critical/radical historical frameworks; and Irish culture since the early nineteenth century. She is the author of Subversive law in Ireland (Four Courts Press, 2005) and Commemoration (Cork University Press, 2018), and an editor of Síreacht: Longings for Another Ireland.
