Join RIA author Séamas Ó Maitiú for a walk through Rathmines as part of Dublin Book Festival
This event is now sold out but there is a waiting list in operation if you would like to join it.
Rathmines originated in a medieval rath and castle, becoming a sleepy river side village in the early nineteenth century. As the vogue for suburban living grew the area mushroomed until, by 1900, it was the country’s greatest residential suburb. Join lecturer and RIA author Dr Séamas Ó Maitiú for a walk through Rathmines, tracing these developments and tracking the changes that led from middle-class enclave to the area of retail outlets and classic ‘flatland’ of recent times.
This walk is based on our recent publication Rathmines by Séamas Ó Maitiú, which is the second in a series of atlases devoted to Dublin suburbs being produced by the Irish Historic Towns Atlas project in the Royal Irish Academy, in association with Dublin City Council.
This event is run in partnership with Dublin Book Festival. You can book your ticket on the DBF website.
Meeting point: Rathmines Library, 157 Lower Rathmines Road Dublin 6, Dublin D06 K2K6
