THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest Academic honour in Ireland.

Ethical, Political, Legal and Philosophical Studies Committee

The Ethical Political Legal and Philosophical Studies Committee is a multi-disciplinary committee that was established in September 2014. Its purpose and aim is to promote co-operation across and within its scholarly disciplines, to advise, contribute and guide Academy policy in these areas and to engage the public on issues of topical interest, on an all-island basis.

During 2016 Mason Hayes & Curran sponsored the committee’s series of Constitutional Conversations

In May 2016, the committee submitted a Response to the Consultation by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment on the Draft Junior Cycle Philosophy Short Course. A copy of that submission may be found here

Throughout 2015 the committee authored an Opinion Series on a range of topics as part of the President of Ireland’s Ethics Initiative.
