Ireland-Scotland bilateral network Grants funding announcement
14 February 2024Funding awarded for innovative collaborative projects under the Ireland–Scotland Bilateral Network Grants scheme
The Royal Irish Academy is delighted to announce a grant of £12,500 to Dr Aoife Crummy, University College Dublin for ‘Celtic Connections: Seanchas na Fairge/Farraige - Reviving Ancient Sea Routes and Stories’ as part of the third year of the Ireland-Scotland Bilateral Network Grants scheme which is funded by the Scottish Government Office in Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The funded project will see researchers from University College Dublin and their partners in The James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen explore the history and heritage of both regions, utilising a comprehensive methodology to include historical research, spatial mapping, community engagement, and storytelling. Their research which strongly emphasises community involvement will use interactive StoryMaps to connect coastal communities, reveal their shared cultural heritage, foster appreciation for their unique histories, and contribute to the preservation of knowledge.
As part of this scheme the Royal Society of Edinburgh have also announced that a grant will be made to Dr Ian Merrell in Scotland’s Rural College to work with partners in University College Cork on their joint project ‘Connected hubs for rural development: Fostering network and capacity building between Irish and Scottish rural remote work hubs’.
This scheme, which is in its third year focuses on strengthening co-operation and learning between excellent researchers, academics and practitioners in Scotland and Ireland within the five thematic areas identified within the 2021 Irish–Scottish Bilateral Review.
This year the scheme invited applications which addressed the theme of ‘Rural, Coastal, and/or Island Communities’.
