The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Praeger Grants in Natural History open

The Royal Irish Academy is pleased to open the Praeger Grants scheme which invites applications for  research on Ireland’s field natural history is open until 14 April 2022

Since 1958, the RIA, through its Praeger Fund Committee, has used the income of this fund to disburse over 360 grants to natural historians, for small fieldwork projects throughout the island of Ireland.

This year the RIA is particuarly thankful for a bequest from the estate of the late Robert Desmond Meikle which will enable the funding of several projects.
