The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Member Profile: Yuri Gunko

Professor Yuri Gunko, a world-leading expert in inorganic materials chemistry was admitted as a Member of the Royal Irish Academy on 24 May 2019.

Yuri Gunko is professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin. He is a world-leading expert in the area of inorganic materials chemistry. He has developed strong links with Irish industry and has been responsible for important developments in the teaching of nanoscience. Potential applications of his research range from solar energy conversion and adhesive technology to nanomedicine, and imaging of biological samples.
