A collaborative report by the Royal Irish Academy and the Irish Research Council entitled, Research for Public Policy: an outline Roadmap, launches today, the 15th of September.

The Royal Irish Academy and Irish Research Council collaborated in early 2021 to host three webinars to discuss how research could be better connected to public policy. An outline roadmap has now been written to lead progress in this area and is available to download.

The roadmap notes that research is a strategic national asset and that the engaged research–policy dialogue is an important agenda for Ireland as it seeks to utilise all of the resources available to it to meet current and future challenges to the best of its ability. This has never been more evident than it was in past 18 months when we as a nation relied on the expertise of NPHET members to help steer us out of the Covid crisis.

Additionally, a group of stakeholders have issued a Statement of Support for the roadmap and have stated their commitment and willingness to partake in efforts to better connect research with policymakers.
