The Royal Irish Academy has published a statement on academic freedom.

Welcoming the release of the statement, Dr Mary Canning, President, Royal Irish Academy, said:

This statement will help us, as Ireland’s national academy for the sciences, humanities and social sciences, to uphold and champion academic freedom and guide our responses to threats against academic freedom on the island of Ireland and globally.

The Royal Irish Academy will continue to work with sister academies through ALLEA, the International Science Council, and the UK Academies Human Rights Committee, to ensure that academic freedom remains central to the pursuit and advancement of truth, knowledge and understanding by academic researchers and institutions.”
