A new poem by Eavan Boland accompanied by specially commissioned illustrations by Paula McGloin to mark 100 years since the women of Ireland, Mná na hÉireann, were granted suffrage and first cast their ballots in the 1918 election. A rare limited edition gift produced for sale in addition to those produced for a public reading at the UN organised by the Irish government. Each page folds out and is illustrated by a figure. Suitable for framing. The poem appears in 7 languages: Irish, English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish and Russian with translations by poets Reem Dawood, Huiyi Bao, Pura López-Colomé, Aifric Mac Aodha, Grigory Kruzhkov and Clíona Ní Ríordáin. The book is published by the Royal Irish Academy in collaboration with the Irish government and is exclusively available for sale from the Royal Irish Academy. A video of the poem with a voiceover by Fiona Shaw is available.
On 5 December, Eavan Boland, an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy, read her poem at a special event at UN organised by the Permanent Representative of Ireland to the UN, Geraldine Byrne Nason, MRIA. The event was broadcast live on UN television and can be watched here.
About the authors

Eavan Boland
Eavan Boland is an Irish poet and author whose work deals with Irish national identity and the role of women in Irish history. She has received a Lannan Foundation Award in Poetry; an American-Ireland Fund Literary Award; the Corrington Medal for Literary Excellence; the Bucknell Medal of Distinction; and a PEN Award for creative nonfiction for a collection of her essays. She is currently Bella Mabury and Eloise Mabury Knapp Professor in the Humanities and Melvin and Bill Lane Professor and Director of the Creative Writing program at Stanford university.

Paula McGloin (illustrator)
Paula McGloin is a Dublin-based illustrator and surface pattern designer. She illustrated the book All Through the Night by Marie Heaney, shortlisted in two categories at the Irish Book Awards 2016. Paula is a member of Illustrators Guild of Ireland and the Association of Illustrators (UK).
