The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest academic honour in Ireland.

Call for Membership Future Earth Ireland (FEI) Social Media Co-Ordinator

(FEI) is looking for an early career researcher to join its membership and contribute to the initiative.

Future Earth is a major international research platform providing the knowledge and support to accelerate our transformations to a sustainable world. Future Earth is an international hub to coordinate new, interdisciplinary approaches to research on three themes: Dynamic Planet, Global Sustainable Development and Transformations towards Sustainability. It also aims to be a platform for international engagement to ensure that knowledge is generated in partnership with society and users of science. It is open to scientists of all disciplines, natural and social, as well as engineering, the humanities and law.
Future Earth Ireland is the national committee that feeds into the global programme and has the following remit:


  • To act as a hub for co-ordinating efforts within the remit of Future Earth on the island of Ireland.
  • To build awareness of Future Earth amongst members, policy makers, funders and other stakeholders.
  • To develop synergies around the Future Earth themes within Ireland for researchers and other stakeholders.
  • To help identify potential sources of national and international funding for researchers in relation to Future Earth and Future Earth themes
  • To co-ordinate activities across existing and proposed initiatives within universities and in other organisations.

Future Earth Ireland (FEI) is looking for an early career researcher (less than 10 years research experience) to join its membership, contribute to the initiative and particularly to co-ordinate FEI social media presence. It is a voluntary role and membership will be for three years.  The role will include: a) developing the FEI blog, managing contributions and providing content; b) developing and maintaining an integrated and appropriate social media profile (e.g. twitter, facebook, LinkedIn); c) enhancing awareness and links between early stage researcher communities in Ireland and Future Earth.
Application: Anyone who is interested in this role should submit a two page CV and a one page statement explaining their relevant expertise and interest in Future Earth initiative to by Friday 24th June. The successful applicant will be notified by August 26th
