THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest Academic honour in Ireland.

International Activities

The Royal Irish Academy provides independent, timely and authoritative scientific advice to Irish, European and international decision makers. Addressing the world's challenges requires international collaboration. We draw on the expertise of Irish science from the humanities, social sciences and natural and life sciences to inform decision makers on a range of issues. We contribute to international policy debates on education and R&D policy and ensure that Ireland's voice is represented in international policy fora. Our experts currently represent Ireland in international working groups on: Climate Change and Health; the Future of Ageing; Climate Change and Education; Truth, Trust and Expertise; and EU Framework Programme 9.
