THE ROYAL IRISH ACADEMY IS IRELAND'S LEADING BODY OF EXPERTS IN THE SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

The Royal Irish Academy/Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann champions research. We identify and recognise Ireland’s world class researchers. We support scholarship and promote awareness of how science and the humanities enrich our lives and benefit society. We believe that good research needs to be promoted, sustained and communicated. The Academy is run by a Council of its members. Membership is by election and considered the highest Academic honour in Ireland.

Obair Reatha

Tá sé i gceist an Foclóir a bhunú ar chorpas den Ghaeilge scríofa agus labhartha. Tá an Corpas scríofa á réiteach faoi láthair, in Acadamh Ríoga na hÉireann agus in Oifig an Fhoclóra ar an Charraig i nGaeltacht Dhún na nGall, agus táthar ag súil 90 milliún focal a bheith gafa sa chorpas faoi dheireadh 2019. Is féidir teacht ar liosta iomlán na dtéacsanna a bheidh sa chorpas anseo. Tá an Coiste Eagarthóireachta ag forbairt dréachtiontrálacha foclóra, bunaithe ar fhianaise an chorpais, agus tá súil na hiontrálacha stairiúla trialacha seo a fhoilsiú go luath.

Current Work

The Historical Dictionary will be based on written and spoken sources of Irish. Currently the written corpus is being assembled by staff in the Royal Irish Academy and in the Dictionary Project’s Offices in An Charraig in the Donegal Gaeltacht, with the intention of extending it to comprise 90 million words by the end of 2019. The list of all the texts included, or to be included in the corpus, is available here. In parallel with building the corpus, the Dictionary’s Editorial Commitee is modelling sample historical entries for the dictionary.
